Treatment is provided on an outpatient basis at SVCCC, under the expert supervision of medical oncologists who are specially trained to treat your specific type of cancer. Our medical oncologists meet with you and your family to determine an individualized treatment plan using medicines to treat malignant (cancerous) cells. Your doctor then monitors your progress throughout the course of treatment, adjusting your medication as needed.

The medical oncologists at SVCCC work with a team of professionals, including an advanced practice nurse and a social worker. Patients also have access to a registered dietician and complementary therapy practitioners. Multiple languages are spoken by the medical oncologists at St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center, and translators are available when needed. This team approach allows for personalized care that is supportive, well rounded and easy to access.

Our treatment area is designed to provide ultimate comfort, with oversized recliners and private rooms equipped with a telephone, television, VCR, DVD player, and extra seating for your loved ones who might be visiting. The treatment area is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for your convenience, and our expert nursing staff is available at any time, day or night, to answer questions about your care or help you manage issues that may arise after treatment. If you have complications at home or require immediate urgent attention, the Center is equipped to stabilize and provide immediate treatment, so a visit to a hospital emergency department is usually unnecessary.

Clinical Research
As part of our commitment to providing the most comprehensive care, St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center participates in clinical trials to test new medications and other advances in treatment and technology. Our clinical researchers work closely with the medical oncology team to identify and enroll patients who will benefit from participating in a clinical trial.

Oncology Laboratory and Pharmacy
Throughout your treatment, your doctor may request routine blood draws. St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center has its own clinical laboratory making it easy and convenient as well as allowing for a faster turnaround of lab results. In addition, we have a private pharmacy that prepares treatment-related medications. These amenities are designed to enhance the quality of care and minimize the time you spend on site receiving treatment.
